Two years ago on April 19, 2019, Javier and I welcomed our first child into the world. We were overjoyed to meet our little man. That was just what we wanted, a little boy to name after his daddy. Fast forward to two years later, and we found out that we were expecting our second child this past March! We could not have been any happier! The only thing is, we swore up and down that this baby would be our little princess.
Listen to “Episode 3: Our Reactions to Finding Out Our Baby’s Gender!” on Spreaker.

There was an option at ten to twelve weeks to get a genetic test done to find out the gender of our baby, but I chose the other test option that involved ultrasound pictures and some lab work. There’s something about finding out at 18 weeks in the ultrasound room that I absolutely loved with my first child so I chose to do everything the same way. So on we went calling our baby a girl.

Then around eleven weeks, we started calling the baby Lily (short for Liliana). I still told my husband that it was still a 50/50 chance that it was a boy, but he would always just say, “It’s a girl!” The main reason we were convinced is because I was so much more sick this time around, and it was just a really uncomfortable first trimester, BUT with my son, I was pregnant in the Fall and Winter. This time around, I was going through the first trimester during a warm Spring. Heat and pregnancy are a bad combination. Also, it was funny because EVERYONE else in our families were guessing girl. There were maybe 2 people out of probably 50 that guessed boy.
Well weeks and weeks passed, and it was FINALLY time to go to my 18 week anatomy scan! We went yesterday (June 17th). When my husband and I were in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, we were joking with each other about needing to be prepared for anything. When the Sonographer came to get us, we were so excited! When we walked in the room, I laid back on the chair and we got right into the ultrasound. It was so amazing how much the baby had grown in such a short time. She checked most of the body parts and organs before asking if we were ready to see the gender. We were absolutely ready!
When she moved down to check, the baby’s legs were wide open telling us that he in fact was not a Lily! I laughed and laughed so hard! I was not sure why that was my reaction, but I felt nothing but joy, and I could not stop laughing! My husband was grinning, and even the sonographer was smiling too! I bet she has seen all kinds of reactions! Even though we were guessing girl, God gave us exactly what was meant to be: a precious little boy! Also everything looks great and healthy for the baby and I! We are so grateful.

Needless to say, we are so overjoyed with adding another baby boy to the Salgado family! We have to start thinking of boy names, but the right one will eventually come to us. Also, I already have everything that I need for a boy! I barely got rid of anything, and since my son is only two, most things are still in reach. I am so thrilled to be a boy mom once again. I’m sure my son will also be super excited to have a buddy as well! I will not deny that I will probably try for a little girl one more time, but you never know. I could have 3 boys! Haha.
