Our Proposal Story and Wedding Date

Hello readers, I have been beyond busy lately, but that’s not my only reason for taking a small break with my blog. I have been taking some time to really focus on my family in the past couple of weeks. As you can tell by the title of this blog, there are some big things happening in the Salgado household! Javier and I are getting married soon! For some of you that do not know our family personally, you probably figured that we were already married because I refer to him as my husband in my blogs. We have lived together for over a year now, and we respect and love each other like husband and wife, but we have not completely tied the knot.

Javier and I have been together since June 25, 2017. To be technical, you can add a few extra months to that because we were inseparable before we were officially dating! We met at work (I still work there, but he moved on to a different job) when he was 17 and I was 19. He worked in the kitchen as a dish washer and food prepper, and I worked in customer service at a small restaurant in our local mall. We met when I would strike up small conversations when I went to bring dishes back. It’s like I have always had such a magnetic connection with him. One day (in April of 2017), I got the guts to ask him to go get some food with me after work, and he said yes. We spent a lot of time together as friends until we realized we couldn’t go a day without being together.

May 2017. We’re so little! 🙈

Summer of 2017 had to be the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. I fell in love so hard. At the time, he still had one more year of highschool (I had been graduated for 2 years), but we spent all of his Summer break together! If we weren’t working together, we were riding around town or going to the park. Sometimes we would just sit in the car listening to music or laughing at funny videos together. I just love thinking about those days. I absolutely still get butterflies around Javier, but there something about being young, wild, free, and totally in love!

Since then, we have been through so much. I got to be at his graduation, we got to meet each other’s families, we created a home together, we became parents together , and so much more. I would not trade a single day with him. Javier and our son are so precious to me.

The way he asked me to marry him was so sweet. Our 3 year anniversary was June 25, 2020. Due to a few family emergencies in his family, we had been having a rough month, but on our anniversary, we got a babysitter and had a wonderful night out. He didn’t ask me on that day, but the day after (June 26th), we were about to watch a movie as a little family, and he asked me to walk over to him. He looked really nervous, but I’ll try to remember his exact words. He was like, “I can’t believe we’ve been together for three years.” *pauses* “I love you so much.” By then he was emotional, and I was hugging him. Then he got down on one knee, and he said, “Will you be my Katie Jo?” Of course I said yes! JJ had no idea what we had just said, but he started clapping! Javier did not have a ring at the time, but we went to get one together the next day. That will forever be a special memory to me.

We have gotten our marriage license already, and we have an appointment on October 7th at the courthouse to be married! We are such simple people, and we just want to enjoy a special day together without glitz and glam. I feel like the luckiest girl on the planet. I can’t wait to see where life takes us! ❤️
