At the end of 2018, I was trying to get it through my mind that I was going to be a mom. I was scared. I didn’t know what I was going to do. Life as I knew it was changing very rapidly, and I wasn’t sure if I could handle it, but little did I know, it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Im writing this blog to tell you 10 reasons how my little JJ has been the biggest blessing in my life.
Listen to “Episode 17: Important Things to Remember During Postpartum” on Spreaker.

1. He brought my family closer together. My family was already close, but there’s something about a baby that brings people even closer. Even during my pregnancy, my family really came together to help me and support me through everything.

2. He strengthened the relationship between Javier and I. Javier and I were close before we had our son, but we have now gone through so much together, and we have only gotten stronger. He has not left my side this entire time, and he is also the best dad to JJ.

3. He makes me want to better myself. My son makes me want to strive to be the best I can be! He motivates me to be the best mother, wife, sister, friend, etc. that I can be. He makes me want to strive to make the best decisions possible for him and our little family because I only want what’s best for us.
4. He has brought so much joy! He has not only brought me joy, but he has brought joy to anyone around him! People just fall in love with his little smile, and his smile is definitely contagious.

5. I have learned who my true friends are! I’ve had some friends that judged me, and I’ve had friends that have stuck by my side. Plus after you have a baby, some friends just don’t come around anymore because they are no longer compatible. There were a couple friends that never even tried to see the baby, and it’s sad because I thought we were close. I just really appreciate the ones who are still there.
6. I’ve made new “mom friends.” I have some wonderful friends that are not mothers yet, but I have also made some new friends that are moms throughout this past year. There is something very special about having friends with children because you can exchange advice, and they understand when you have to cancel because of a rough night or something. Also your children have friends to grow up with.
*JJ and his friend Alice!*

7. He helped me mellow out. I had a really bad temper before I was pregnant. It was nothing too serious, but I would boil up pretty easy whether I let it out or not. Now, I try to just let things go or find humor in things.
8. He strengthened my faith in God. You go through so much being pregnant, during childbirth, and even postpartum. I have really had to trust that God has everything in his hands. There’s been so many times that I had no idea how things would work, but they always have! God takes care of us when we trust him.
9. I can help other people through my experiences! Whether I am just telling my story or writing a blog, I can hopefully help new moms with my experiences. I never want to seem like a know it all, but I definitely want to be there for anyone who needs it.
10. He has shown me what true love is. I have true, unconditional love for my boyfriend, but there is a certain love you have for your child. As a mother you birth a beautiful child into the world, and you would do anything in your power to keep him happy and safe for his entire life. I love my child more than I love myself, and I thank God for him every day!

Being a mom has been the most beautiful blessing in life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I hope if you’re going through what I did, that this will give you hope. Sometimes the things that are unexpected become our biggest blessings!

I had an unexpected baby, ten years ago. Everything you said is so true. A baby changes everything and in such a wonderful way!

Motherhood is an incredible journey. You have a beautiful family!!
I love this list!
I went through postpartum with my second baby, myself, and I held on to God like I’ve not held before.
And yes, having children changes perspectives. What better way to be reminded that we are not the center of the universe than when we have children, right?
Beautiful post! So happy for you and your family
I can totally relate!! Thank you for posting!!
What a beautiful post, our children definitely help us to grow and appreciate life in so many different ways!
Sometimes things happen that aren’t part of our plan, but this just means they were meant to be. Sweet little one has a great purpose!
A beautiful post. There is nothing that can compare to motherhood.
What a beautiful testimony of the blessing of children! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for reading!
both of mine were surprise babies and this sums up exactly how I felt each time they were born. my kiddos have an 8 year age gap so the birth of my son reawakened all those things that my daughter brought into my life
That is awesome! If someone told me that I would be pregnant soon 2 years ago, I would’ve FLIPPED. 2 years later, I have a 1 year+3 month old, and I love every moment (most moments haha).
