This week has just been crazy. JJ is teething really bad, he has not slept as good as usual, I misplaced grocery money earlier this week, and to top it all off, I locked myself out of my house today! It’s like my week has been the mom version of A Series of Unfortunate Events! This is why you have to have a sense of humor as a mom or you could literally go bonkers.
This morning I decided to go take the trash off. I got all of the trash together, put it in my trunk, washed my hands, and then I got JJ in the car. Then I went back to the house to grab my pocketbook and my keys from inside. I had forgotten that I had locked the door, and I had shut the door locking myself out.
So there I stood with my phone on 20%, and I had no way to get inside. I started panicking. At first I didn’t know what to do. I got in my car and called my mom, and she told me that she was actually close by so she could run me by my landlord (cousin)’s house to get a spare key from her. So there I was sitting in the back seat of my car waiting for her to get there with JJ, and I took him out of his car seat because we weren’t going anywhere, and he let out a big laugh! It reminded me to calm down and just laugh about it.
My situation could’ve been worse! I could’ve locked JJ and my phone in the house or something, but I had both of them with me. It was not hot outside because the rain cooled everything down. Someone else had a spare key. My mom took me to get the key and take my trash so everything worked out! I was back into my house in less than an hour!
Sometimes we get this “why me?!” attitude, but everyone has these days! They make for crazy stories later at least. When you find yourself in a bad situation, try to look at things from a different perspective. Things could always be worse!

I love your positive attitude. This literally just happened to me last week. Except I had no phone with me. I took my daughter out the patio door to swing and the bar fell down blocking the door!! Who would of thought this could happen. There we were locked out of the house with no phone and no spare key. Luckily a friendly neighbor let me use their phone to call the locksmith. I was a panicked mess, what if my daughter would have been inside the house?!?! Needless to say we now have a spare key and all is well. Thank you for sharing your story.

Oh gosh I feel your pain, I’ve done this too! Except for when I did it, I broke my spare key in the door and was stuck outside with my 3 week old daughter on a winter morning. Humiliating, to have to make several calls until I reached someone and then have to explain to everyone else why I was calling them! But nobody is any worse for the wear and it’s just something we laugh about now! Glad it turned out ok!
Gotta have a roll with it attitude or you won’t make it out of motherhood alive! Hope your week gets better than last week!
I’m glad you were able to get back in! I always worry about accidentally locking myself away from my child- whether in the house or car. This is a great reminder to have a plan in place in case it happens, because you never know when it could be a “why me” day.

I totally hear you! Yesterday I almost started driving without buckling my daughter’s car seat! Good thing she’s old enough to tell me. (Face palm)
I totally feel you on the teething! My one year old has 3 molars coming in and its brutal! So happy things worked out with being locked out – I know that can be scary!

I remember when I locked my keys in my car when I went into the grocery store with my newborn.
At least we could go back and wait inside the store. Also gave my friend a spare key to my car door.
