Before you read this, let me say that it starts out as basically a pity party, but just hear me out until the end. I promise, it is not a sob story!
This week has been rough. All week, I had a rash on my chest. Not just a small rash.. A rash that covered my whole chest on both sides, and it itched like crazy! I had no idea where it came from.. Friday I got a pair of skinny jeans out of the laundry pile and wore them all day. Saturday morning I woke up with my hands, arms and legs broken out too! I called my doctor and found out that I was having an allergic reaction to my detergent because I had recently started using a new kind.
So for 2 days straight I’ve been having to pump and dump my breastmilk (liquid gold) while I take Prednisone and rub anti itch cream all over my body. Not to mention the itch that could drive someone to madness. I’m just thankful that I had a stockpile of milk in freezer bags for my son!
In saying all of this, these past couple days is reminding me of how strong I’ve had to be this past year. It literally feels like I can’t catch a break. Pregnancy, UTI’s, the flu, childbirth, healing from childbirth, struggling with breastfeeding, mastitis, emotional problems, and now an allergic reaction to laundry detergent.. It’s almost like I’m always wondering what’s next.
I know this sounds like a pity party, but I’m actually just in awe of how much I’ve gone through and how much I’ve made it through. As a mother, none of this has slowed me down. I didn’t have a choice. I’ve had to be strong for my family. When the mother of the house isn’t feeling good, the whole family can feel it too.
I wanted to write this for all of the mamas out there who hold your families together when you feel like you’re falling apart. Sometimes it feels like we take care of everyone else, and there’s no one to take care of us. You may not have gone through what I have, but we all have our own battles. Heck, there are millions of people going through far worse things than I am, but there’s something we need to remember…
WE ARE STRONG MAMAS!!
