Cheap/Free Summer Ideas To Do With Your Kids

When I was little, my mom was a stay at home mom. She was always thinking of ways to keep the Summer fun while on a budget. Now I am in the same boat with my baby boy. I am home with him all day everyday. Now that I’m a stay at home mom, I plan on doing the same things with my kids that my mom did with my sister and I. Here are a few ideas for a fun Summer while on a budget!

1. Nature Trails/Parks

When I think of Summer, I think of going outside. Parks or nature trails with a shaded picnic area are the best. You can pack a lunch from home and then enjoy the outdoors. Sandwiches, chips and fruit salad are the best on hot days!

2. The Library

I remember our local library had some Summer events, and they had something called “library time” where the librarian read to the kids and did crafts. Even if your local library doesn’t have these things, the library is still a great place for just getting out of the house for a while.

3. Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse

At most Cinemark theaters, they have Summer Movie Clubhouse. It’s when they show 10 different kids’ movies throughout the Summer for a dollar each! I remember going with my mom, sister and cousin at 9:00 am every Wednesday to watch a movie. It was my favorite thing!

4. Water Balloon Fights

Invite family or friends over for a water balloon fight! At least enough people for 3 vs 3. Buy two different colors of balloons and just have fun! It doesn’t last long, but it’s a fun way to cool off!

5. Bible Schools

This is depending on your religious views, but I remember LOVING Bible school. They had music, crafts, stories, games and music. It’s good for social interaction too! I do suggest either staying to help or personally knowing someone who would be staying the whole time.

6. Buy a Small Pool/Water Slide

If you have a yard or a large deck, you can buy a small pool, water slide, or splash pad for your kids to enjoy if you want to soak up the sunshine without leaving your home.

7. Plan A Day Trip

Plan a day trip out of town that you and your kids can look forward to. Go to the beach, the lake, the mountains, etc. Just anywhere you like. It will be a good way to not spend your money on a big vacation, but to still feel like you got away a little while. I suggest starting early to take advantage of your time. Also these days are more fun when you make it a surprise and don’t tell them where you’re going!

These are just a few ideas for the mommies looking for fun things to do with your kids that won’t break the bank this Summer! If you have any Summer fun ideas, feel free to share in the comments!
