Sometimes as a mom, you feel nervous to leave the house for long. When I go anywhere, it feels like I have to pack up my whole house. Then there’s the routine. Lord knows that you can NEVER mess up your baby’s routine. Needless to say, the thought of a day trip seemed so overwhelming to me.
My dad has his own business as a mobile RV repairman. He goes to a campground called Sycamore Lodge to host seminars (where he teaches people how to care for their own campers and RVs) every Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day weekends. Before I had the baby, I used to go with my parents every year all 3 times. My dad works all day when we’re there, but me and my mom swim, play mini golf, hang out in the lodges, walk around the lake, etc.
This time when my parents asked me to go, I was hesitant. I wouldn’t have anywhere to pump, nurse or store bottles so it kinda seemed impossible. Then I remembered dad saying that we had some close family friends camping there in their RV this weekend! I texted them and asked if I could visit them and pump and feed my little man while I was there. I wanted to ask ahead of time because I have to feed or pump every 3 hours and I didn’t want to totally crash their weekend. Haha. They said of course! They wanted to see the baby too.
We made the plans on Wednesday and I spent the rest of the week excited that we were going to get to get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors some! So yesterday (Saturday) morning, my boyfriend and I packed up our whole house it felt like, I pumped and fed JJ, and we went to the campground. It’s about an hour away from our house so it felt like a fun road trip! We jammed out the whole way there!
When we got there we had 2 hours to do things before time to feed JJ. We played pool in the lodge and walked around the small country store with my mom. It’s a small family campground so there were so many friendly people coming up to me and asking about little man. That’s fine because I love to show him off. Then he got hungry so we went over to our friends’ camper.
My friends hadn’t seen him yet so I fed him a bottle, pumped, and let them hold him. It was so fun to catch up with friends! Then we were able to go to the pool! My sister came too so she was MORE than happy to watch him by the pool while my boyfriend and I played in the pool. Yes played. Haha. We chase each other, do handstands and play shark, and just act like kids! It’s great! We needed that! JJ was just chilling poolside with his auntie! We even caught him smiling.

Before we knew it, it was time to pump and feed again so we went back to my friends’ RV. We laughed and told stories and hung out there and before we knew it, it was almost 7:00pm! When we left that morning, I had only planned on staying until 4:00pm, but I ended up just really enjoying the day! At 7:00pm we put all of our stuff in the car so we’d be ready to leave. Then we drove up to the country store and made s’mores and listened to a band they had under the shelter. I was so happy, I was even dancing around a little! Around 9:00pm we finally went home.
On the ride home, I felt very accomplished about the day! It still felt like a lot of work just to leave the house for one day, but it was worth it. We had a great day, and we were able to enjoy the sunshine! AND we pretty much kept our routine! I wrote this blog to say that it’s so much harder to go places after having children but it can be done.
I hope everyone is having a great Memorial weekend!

Got you momma. Being there. I can totally understand the feeling how a new born mom feels when it comes to go on outing with a feeding little baby. It is that we need to talk and plan to make things workout as you did very well. Don’t stop yourself. I remember the days when my car trunk used to be filled with things that were need of my son. Things will workout smoothly. Have a good weekend. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. It can be so hard as a new mom to figure out how to leave the house and enjoy a trip. I know with my first baby it seemed totally overwhelming. Your post is a great example of how it can be done. Thanks, Candice @littlestepsbighappy.com
First of all, what a little cutie! Glad you got to have a an enjoyable weekend!

So much positivity in this post, I can literally imagine you both singing in the car. You’re totally right too, just going an hour away or letting someone else do the cuddling can allow you some much needed adult time.
First trips can be intimidating, but once you get used to it, traveling with an infant is easy. You just need to stick with their routines as much as possible. Have fun with your little one!
