Clingy or Connected?

From the second my son was born until now, a month later, I have spent all but maybe 2 hours tops with him. Wherever he is, that’s where I am. Besides a couple quick trips to the store while my boyfriend was home watching him, he has always been right next to me. Even when I go to the store without him, I miss him a little and end up talking to the cashier about him and maybe sometimes a even a random person in the isles too. It’s like my son and I are connected, and when I’m not around him, I don’t feel right. Or am I just clingy?

Lately my boyfriend has been begging me to let someone watch the baby a little while so we can go out on a date. I want to, but I don’t really feel good about it. JJ and I are on a 3 hour cycle at the moment. He drinks 3 ounces every 3 hours. He’s like a timer! After 3 hours, he cries because he’s hungry unless he’s knocked out asleep. Anyways, if I don’t breastfeed him, I have to pump. Since I’ve had mastitis, my doctor was strict about making sure I pumped or fed every 3 hours. I mean I’m not always exactly on the 3 hour mark but it’s pretty close. 3 hours from the minute we leave the house doesn’t give us much time to do much. Plus if I leave, he has to be with specific people. I only trust a few people to really watch him and follow how I say to do things.

My boyfriend picks on me calling me the mama bear. He says I’m clingy and overprotective. I know he’s right, but I just want what’s best for our baby. In a few months when JJ is bigger, I’ll be more likely to let someone watch him while we go out, but at one month old I think it’s okay to be this overprotective and clingy because he’s so little.

I think it all boils down to the connection us as mothers have with our children. They are a part of us. They lived within us for nine months. They need us. They depend on us. It’s hard for us to pull back and let go a little sometimes. I think that is totally fine. It just means we are good mothers and we love our babies. ❤️

You are a perfect mom the way you are. When you are ready for more separation you will know. Until then keep doing what you feel is best for you and your little one
