Lessons I Hope to Instill in My Children

Hello readers. If you have ever read any of my blogs in the past, you know that my boys are my entire world. My sweet and sassy 2 year old boy JJ, and my cranky yet lovable 3 month old Diego are my whole heart and soul. As their mama, I pray over them daily, and I hope they have very beautiful and prosperous lives, but in saying that, it is my job (along side my wonderful husband) to teach them along the way. Here are 10 super important lessons that I hope to instill in my boys.

Jesus loves them

This is so important to me. Even though they will have a big support system, I want them to know that they always have Jesus walking right beside of them. I hope that they will use their faith to navigate through life.

Respect EVERYONE

Women, men, elders, teachers, classmates, EVERYONE. I hope they will show love and respect to whoever they come across. I hope to teach them to also respect other people no matter how they believe or look.

Put family first

Family is everything. The family you come from is super important, and the family you create is even more important!

Be kind

You never know what other people may be going through so be kind to everyone. Remember that golden rule?! Treat others the way that you want to be treated! That is such an old statement, but it is so very true.

Be honest

I hope that my boys will always be honest with me (and everyone else) even when it is hard. Honesty is the best policy!

Always do the next right thing

I hope that even when my boys make mistakes, my voice will be in the back of their minds saying, “Do the next right thing!” I know that when Javier and I first found out that we were going to have our first child together (over 3 years ago), we were scared and pretty afraid to tell our families, but we just had to move forward to do the right thing from that moment forward! Now we are married with 2 beautiful kiddos! I’m not saying that we haven’t made any more mistakes since then, but you just have to do your best, and I want to always be real with my kids about my past.

Be careful in dating situations

Whether it be someone pressuring them to do something that they do not feel comfortable with doing or someone using them, I hope that they have high standards when it comes to dating so they can make good choices and discern right from wrong. I can do my best to teach them right from wrong, but frightening enough, parents have less control of this than we would like. I will definitely pray that God will put good people in their paths! I’ll just enjoy them being small for now. We’ve got a lot to go through before I have to worry about that!

Cheating in any situation is unacceptable

Whether it is in a school situation or a dating situation, cheating is never okay. Period.

Always be yourself

You will attract real and genuine friends this way! If you pretend to be someone you are not, it is just so tiring. You might as well embrace your unique individuality!

Follow your dreams

Even if no one understands your dreams, never give up! Always chase your passions and you will be so happy!

I am so grateful for the privilege I have walking beside these two precious boys through every phase of life. I hope that I will always be the best mother I can be for them.
