Our Eighteen Month Update: Sleep Regression, Teething, and More!

Hello readers! In this blog, I want to give you an update on little man. Last Monday (October 19th), JJ turned eighteen months! I really cannot believe how fast this year has flown by. It feels like it was just a few weeks ago when we celebrated JJ’s first birthday, and before I knew it, 6 more months had flown by! JJ has changed so much in the past few months, and I want to tell you all about it! Some of the changes have been exciting, but some have been super challenging. Let me just jump right in!

Teeth, Teeth, and More Teeth!

At JJ’s 15 month appointment, he only had 2 bottom teeth, and I was starting to worry about him. I thought he would never get his teeth! I asked the doctor about it, and she said that some kids just get teeth slower than others. At the time, I would have done anything to get his teeth to pop through. I spoke too soon because 2 weeks after his appointment, 2 more teeth came through back to back. Fast forward to right now, and JJ has 12 teeth! It has not been an easy ride! Let’s just say Pedialyte ice pops helped so much!

We Have a Talker!

JJ has always been a noisy little thing. He used to grunt constantly when he was a newborn. Then he went from cooing to babbling, and now he is talking up a storm! Let me list the words he says the most: ball, mama, dada, nana (food), pawpaw, bow-wow (dog), shoes, there, bubble, agua (“water” in Spanish), ven (“come here” in Spanish), papas (potatoes), hey, poopoo, and bye. He also likes to say JJ! Haha! He also point to what he wants. He’s very expressive!

At around 17 months, and he gets smarter every day! ❤️

The 18 Month Sleep Regression

Okay. JJ has had sleep regressions in the past, and after tweaking his sleep schedule, and just having 2 or 3 rough nights, he was usually back to normal. This sleep regression was different. We spent 2 weeks straight with maybe one good night of sleep. It was brutal. I even had to call out of work one night because he fell asleep around 9:00pm, but he woke up at 2:30am, and he didn’t go back to sleep until 7:30am. I was so frustrated! But now he is back to normal. He’ll go to bed around 9:00pm and sleep until 9:00am or so! That’s so much better.. I did not have to change anything. He kind of just flipped a switch one day and started sleeping normally again. I blame the severity of the sleep regression on getting all of those teeth though. He got 4 in one week during that time. Tylenol was his friend..

We Have a Climber!

Little man has started trying to climb everything. He gets on our dining room chair and gets on the table. We are having to discipline him though because he could get really hurt doing that. We also have the crib in the living room next to the couch, and he knows how to climb out now. If he wakes up before I do in the morning, he runs to my room and gets me! He’s a mess!

Some of JJ’s Favorite Things!

At the moment, JJ has some very specific favorite things. His favorite show is Cocomelon. I have to put a time limit on him because he could be mesmerized forever. It does help me get my housework done at times though! He loves going outside. His favorite food is french fries with ketchup. We don’t eat out often, but he still says “papas” (potatoes in spanish) over and over when we pass McDonalds! He’s just so energetic and loving. He loves to give his daddy and me kisses. He’s our little buddy.
