My Child Is My Best Friend

Do you remember when you were in grade school and you had that one person (or group of friends) that you did everything with? I remember going out to the mall, watching movie/show marathons, and pulling all nighters with my best friends. Those were the days! When you become an adult, friendships like that tend to dwindle. It’s not anyone’s fault. You just go to different colleges, get full time jobs, and start families of your own. It’s completely normal. I still keep in touch with my closest friends, but we don’t hang out as much anymore because of opposite schedules most of the time.

My son JJ turned 7 months old yesterday, and he is so growing so fast! He’s crawling and sitting on his own now! He’s trying so hard to talk to me, and he tries to sing along with me when I sing to him. I have so much fun with him (when he’s in a good mood). I remember when he was just born and I would just hold him all day because he didn’t really do anything but sleep. That was great, but this stage is so much more fun.

Yesterday while we were playing, I realized something really cute. JJ hasn’t replaced my friends of course, but he has become my best friend. I am with him 24/7, I take him everywhere with me, I talk to him about everything (he may not understand, but it’s a great way to vent because he can’t repeat anything right now), and we even pull an all nighter every now and then! I tell everyone that he is my plus one anywhere. If I ever get invited to anything, just expect JJ because he’s part of the package! I really love taking him to the store with me. He sits in the front of the cart now, and I just talk to him while getting groceries. People smile at us, but I’m pretty sure they think I’m crazy. Haha! I just love having him as my sidekick.

I love this stage where he is always wanting me and reaching for me, but I know that he will one day grow out of it. I hope that even when he’s older, he will come to me for everything still. I hope we stay really close and in tune with each other. I want to be his nonjudgmental listening ear, the one who can cheer him up after a bad day, and even his shoulder to cry on if he needs it. I also want to be the one who scares the wrong girls away, but ends up treating the right woman for him like my own daughter. My love for my son may end up being tough love at times, and we may not always be “friends”, but I’ll always try to do what’s best for him. I will always love him unconditionally.

I am so glad that God gave me JJ. I’m so glad I can stay home with him, and just soak in every moment. I have a hardworking man to thank for that! I will cherish these days while they last because one day he’ll be in school, and he won’t be chilling with his mom all day everyday. I’m so thankful for the bond I have with my son right now. I’m so thankful for my little best friend. ❤️
