JJ’s Reactions To Different Foods!

Lately little man has been growing by leaps and bounds. With all of this growing, his appetite has been increasing too! I feel like he cluster feeds constantly! He will be 6 months old this month so I decided about a week and a half ago to start letting him try different foods! Of course I still mostly breastfeed, but I think he needs more nutrition now that other foods can give him. I am starting with actual fruits and vegetables instead of baby food for now.

So far he has tried bananas, apples, and mashed potatoes! Not all in the same day of course. With the bananas and the apples, I peel them, and then I get a spoon and rake across the fruit to just give him a little taste of it. I also baked potatoes with no seasoning and I masked up a little bit of it, and I added my milk to make it like mashed potatoes! Right now I’m mostly doing it for him to taste different things. It’s not really enough to try to substitute a feeding quite yet. We’ll work our way up.

The first thing he tried was bananas! He loves bananas! They don’t really love him back though. They make him have blowouts. I’m guessing it is because his body has to get used to it. He really gets excited to eat them though!

On the other hand, the other day we tried an apple! To me, it tasted sweet, but it did not work with JJ’s little taste buds. He really didn’t like it! I’m going to try it again after he’s tried other foods. He might come around.

Then the other evening, I made baked potatoes. After eating, we had a little left so I wanted to see if he would like it. I mashed it up into a bowl, and I added a little bit of my milk to it to thin it out. He loved it! Also last night my boyfriend and I went out to eat, and I ordered mashed potatoes with JJ in mind. I didn’t feed him much of it since I didn’t personally make it, but he still liked it!

It has been so much fun letting JJ try out some different foods. He’s getting bigger every day, and my mommy gut told me it was time to start this process. It has been a hit and miss so far, but I hope he will not be a super picky child. He probably won’t be because his taste buds are still developing. Hey, one day he will be a teenager trying to eat EVERYTHING in the house! So for now I’m going to enjoy these sweet moments with my little man.
