Thank You God For Our Good Night’s Sleep

The last few days have been exhausting to say the least. Ever since Monday, if JJ is not being held, he’s whining or crying. He’s been teething like crazy so I’ve constantly been giving him teethers. If I give him a teether, he will actually sit in his walker until he throws it on the floor on accident, and then he starts whining again. I try to be patient because I know he doesn’t feel good, but the constant fussiness drives me nuts!

The night before last night was the worst. We co-sleep, but I’m transitioning him to his crib. Since he didn’t feel good, I let him sleep with me instead of worrying about the crib. Well he wiggled around and fought sleep until midnight. Then he woke up every hour until around 4:00am. Then I finally gave him Tylenol. I don’t give him Tylenol every time because I don’t want us to depend on it for everything, but sometimes you need it. At 4:30am, he knocked out, and I put him in his crib. When I got in bed, I could not fall asleep! I just couldn’t get comfortable, and I was just irritated. I tossed and turned until 6:00am. My boyfriend gets up at 6:30am so I just made his lunch and did the dishes. After he left for work, I finally fell asleep around 7:00am. I was sleeping very good until 8:00am when JJ woke up ready to play..

My plan was to nap when he napped during the day. I have not done that in a while because JJ usually sleeps for 10 hours straight at night! He usually takes 2 naps during the day, and they are usually about an hour long. Yesterday he decided not to take any! I nursed him to sleep at one point, but when I laid him down, his eyes opened. Well I just had to forget about taking a nap because the house needed cleaning, I had to make supper for later, AND JJ was being extra clingy. At least I hadn’t had plans for the day.

By bedtime I was exhausted! My boyfriend usually helps me with JJ when he gets home from work in the evenings, but JJ usually wants me when he’s teething or not feeling well. Probably because I am the food supply, and he cluster feeds on days like these. Well JJ was falling asleep in the living room at 9:00pm so we moved to the bedroom. I tried nursing him to sleep, but he wasn’t having it. He did not want to sleep anymore!

I was beyond frustrated at that point. I was so irritated. I don’t function well at all when I’m exhausted. I just sat up on the edge of the bed with him trying to just breathe. He was fighting sleep by wiggling and crying. Then I started quietly singing Jesus Loves Me. JJ started yawning. Then I just started singing every church song that came to mind.

Okay, that might seem strange, but the more I sang, the more peaceful we both got. My boyfriend was snoring by the end of the first song! Anyways, eventually I was able to lay down with him without him squirming. I just locked eyes with him, and I kept singing, “He’s got you and me baby in his hands. He’s got the whole world in his hands.” I don’t even remember falling asleep, but we both did! We slept great too! We slept from 10:00pm until 10:00am (minus one feeding)!

Sometimes you just need to calm down, and enjoy these moments with your little one. One day they will be grown, and these moments will only be memories. I am glad I calmed down and leaned on God for perseverance. Thank you God for our good night’s sleep. ❤️
