When my baby was two and a half months old, I thought I finally had this mom thing down! Our routine had finally clicked, little man was always happy and chill, and everything started feeling really smooth and easy. Put your guard up if you ever feel like that! It is very short lived in motherhood. No longer than I thought that things were super easy, my baby started acting very unlike himself. He was irritable and just acting really strange. I looked up everything that was happening, and realized my little man was teething!
Teething can last a while! Some babies get teeth at 4 months while some babies get teeth closer to a year old! My baby is almost 4 months old and I’m just now feeling a tooth coming in after a month of teething. Here are some of the signs of teething that my baby had.

- Drooling. Teething can make your baby drool a lot! Make sure that if your baby is drooling constantly, wipe his chin, neck, and chest because drool can cause a skin rash.
- Upset stomach. The excessive drooling can cause a little bit of diarrhea or spitting up. We’ve had quite a few blowouts..
- Refusing bottle or breast. If your baby acts like they do not want to eat while teething, it’s because of their sore gums rubbing against the bottle/breast.
- Constant nursing. On the other hand, there are also some days that he constantly wants to comfort feed! Every child is different!
- Swollen gums. My little man has a raised spot on his gums in the front and bottom where teeth are trying to come in!
- Hand biting/sucking on bottom lip. My son started putting his hands at his mouth constantly as if he were hungry, but it was all the time! He also started always sucking his thumb or his bottom lip, and it really soothes him.
- More irritable. My son is super fussy at times when he’s hurting, and I can totally relate! I have dealt with wisdom teeth coming in, and this probably hurts just as bad for him if not worse! Just be patient during these times because he just it trying to tell you he’s hurting.
- Fights asleep at night. This is the worst one at times. Sometimes I feel like things are worse at night. There are a few nights where Tylenol and breastfeeding are the only things that calm him.
- Fever. It’s normal for babies to get low grade fevers while teething, but if it gets too high, see your pediatrician.
I wrote this blog to tell you what to expect when your little one is teething. I also just want to say that if any of this is happening and you aren’t sure if it’s teething, see your pediatrician to be sure! Good luck mamas! ❤️
