Today I did the most airheaded and embarrassing thing! Okay, I’ll start from the beginning. This morning I had a WIC appointment at 11:00am. Just in case you are unfamiliar with WIC, it is an organization to help mothers/families get the nutrition they need by giving them a grocery card with food groups like fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, juice, etc. If you get approved, you have to go every 3 months or so and renew your benefits and check your baby’s weight.
At a normal WIC appointment, you have a few people that you have to see. You have like 4 stations that you have to go to. You have to check in, sit back down in the waiting area, weigh baby and check height, sit back down, go to nutritionist, sit back down, and then check out/schedule next appointment. There is also a lactation consultant (the one at my WIC office is amazing), and they gave me a breast pump to use! It sounds like a lot, but it’s very worth it. I highly recommend WIC! It’s helped me a lot!
Anyways, on Monday I called to ask if I needed to bring anything because I couldn’t remember if they’d mentioned anything at my last appointment, and they just said that all they had to do was weigh JJ. So today I came in for my appointment and checked in. Then they weighed JJ! He’s almost 12 pounds now, and he’s 23 inches long! She said he’s doing amazing for a breastfed baby! I was super happy about that.
Then I asked the lady if we were done, and she said yes so I left. When I was walking out, I didn’t feel right almost as if I’d forgot something. Then when I was almost home, I got a phone call. When I answered the lady over the phone said, “Ms. Frazier, where are you?” Then she told me they were waiting on me so we could finish my appointment. I felt so dumb! She had said we were done, BUT it was only for that part of the appointment. I had misunderstood her. I totally left instead of going back to the waiting area!
I turned around and went back, but I felt super embarrassed! When I got there, they told me that was the second time that has happened this week already so I felt a little better, but I still felt pretty dumb. The rest of the appointment went fine, and then we went home. Next time I just need to make sure I don’t leave before renewing my benefits because that’s the whole idea! Haha. Today I definitely had mommy brain for sure!

There was no reason to feel dumb! As I’ve gotten older and now have three kids, I have just learned that people either need to give me grace or I can’t worry what they think. HA! I have forgotten so many things or done some pretty silly things because of “mom brain.” I even ran into someone with my car and really had ZERO excuse. I just put my foot on the gas instead of brake and have no idea why. LOL! I’m telling you, mom brain is a real thing! YAY for your son weighing 12 pounds and way to keep up with breastfeeding. You got this!
It happens. As moms we have so many things in our mind…
We’ve all done stuff like that! The mommy brain is real!
Awww…that is totally normal for moms. I may have done it myself with one of my kids.
Oh my goodness, this is totally something I would do. No worries! haha
As a I saw in another comment, mommy brain is real. One thing I have leaned through my 20 years of being a mom is that you have to offer yourself grace. Let it go… because another moment will happen again soon! ☕️
