Who doesn’t love a romantic dinner date? A young couple having an uninterrupted conversation while enjoying a nice meal together. Sounds awesome doesn’t it? Well if you have kids, you know that this isn’t always the case.
My husband and I really don’t let very many people babysit our son. I mean, he’s three months old and breastfed so I really don’t like to be far from him for long. So we take him on our little “date nights.” Usually he falls asleep in the car and stays asleep in the carseat for the majority of the time. Tonight that wasn’t the case.
Tonight Javier wanted to take me out to eat as a special treat. When we got to our favorite Mexican restaurant, we sat down and ordered our drinks, and then we started talking about our day. Before our drinks were even out, JJ woke up, and he was not happy. My husband had his car seat beside him so he took him out and tried calming him down first. After a few minutes of trying, he handed him over to me.
He was just super whiny and wiggly, and he wouldn’t take his bottle of milk, but he was acting hungry. So after we ordered our food, I went to breastfeed him outside in the car. He wouldn’t take me either so I just came back inside. Our food was already out. He kept fussing until I finally rocked him to sleep. Then I only had one hand to eat with.
Trust me, as a mommy, I’ve mastered doing a lot with just one free hand, but cutting up a enchilada didn’t seem to be one of them. Javier got my plate, and cut up my food for me so I could eat easier. He’s the sweetest man alive. We continued our meal as JJ slept in my arms. It wasn’t all bad. One day he’ll be a toddler climbing the booth, and I’ll wish he was still my little baby asleep in my arms. We still had a good night. We had thought about going to the mall or something afterwards, but we just went home. We just watched some Netflix together, and then we went called it a night.
Tonight could have been looked at as a disaster, but it’s all in your perspective. I spent the evening with my two favorite guys, I ate some really good food, and I got some extra cuddles from my little guy. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
