I wrote this in a state of postpartum depression. I feel much better now, but I want to share how I felt with other women who might struggle to love their postpartum bodies.
Listen to “Episode 17: Important Things to Remember During Postpartum” on Spreaker.
Sometimes I miss the old her. The girl that felt confident. The girl with no stress. The girl that hardly had any body fat. The girl with so many friends. The girl who did anything she wanted. The girl that had thousands in her bank account. Sometimes I really miss that girl.
She’s changed. She second guesses herself. She almost wants to cry because she’s overwhelmed at times. She’s not happy with what she sees in the mirror. Only a select few friends talk to her now. She doesn’t really go out anymore. She barely has enough for this months bills. Sometimes this girl doesn’t even like herself.
Even though this may sound like a sad story, she has many good things in her life too. Even though she may second guess herself, she does what she thinks is best. She has a beautiful family that she loves. She is taken care of by a wonderful man so she can stay at home with her baby. Even though she doesn’t like her body right now, she embraces it because she gave life to her beautiful son. Even though she may not have many friends, she knows who the real ones are. Even though she has no money, every need is met.
So sometimes I miss the old her, but I think she has better things ahead. She’s still got growing to do, and a great life to live. She’s going to be just fine.

Being a new parent can be overwhelming and you can feel you lose sight of yourself. Focus on the positives and remember to take care of yourself as well as your son. Do something each day to give yourself some LOVE! Congratulations on being a new mommy! Such an exciting time!
Things get easier with more self love!! You got this 🙂
As someone who gained a massive amount of wait due to a medical issue, I really got this post. Thank you for writing it.
New mom feelings and that’s okay. Your best days are ahead of you. Great post!
Thank you ❤️❤️
You are welcome mama!😚
I think that is such a common feeling. It was a time when you could be selfish and care only about yourself. I think it a great that you put it down on paper since every mom has felt that way.
I think so too! Thank you for reading!
I love how honest this post is! There are so many more responsibilities that come with being a mama and it’s stressful at times.
I had my first when I was 19 and had severe PPD, now nearly 10 years later, with a 6-month-old (luckily I did not experience PPD this time around), this reminds me of my 19-year-old self and gave me “things I would tell my younger self” vibes.
Yes! My PPD was not long lived thankfully, but it was a dark time. I’m glad you did not experience that the second time around. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I love being a Mom, but it is HARD sometimes. And I would be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes miss how things used to be.
I completely understand ❤️
